Westfield target cup upset

WESTFIELD manager Steve Johnson says his team have a chance of upsetting high flying Rye & Iden United if the Salts outfield fail to perform on Saturday September 6.

Unbeaten United top the Sussex Division One table and have been installed as bookmakers' favourites to lift the championship.

But Johnson said: "They should win if their attitude is right but if they're not on their game we could pinch it. We will battle through and give them a game, our attitude is always good and we won't need any motivating."

Mark Ward (groin), Chris Rea (thigh), Sam Jamison (ankle) and Peter Newstead (hamstring) are all doubtful for the John O'Hara Challenge Cup second round tie while Darrol Parris and Chris Smith have 35 day bans.

Westfield continued their fine start to the Division Two season with a creditable goalless draw at Worthing United last Saturday which preserved their third position. Their next league outing is a trip to struggling Haywards Heath Town on Wednesday evening.
