What a drive! Andrew's hole-in-one wins him a car

The club held an open day to give people who might not realise that golf really was open to everyone to come and see for themselves.

The club is ideal for families as in addition to its two 18-hole courses there is also a nine-hole pitch and putt course, crazy golf, a driving range and a teaching academy.

There were lots of activities for adults and children, so everyone could give golf a go. There were competitions to enter with some great prizes on offer, including a TaylorMade putter for the longest putt, a Ping golf bag for the best score on a special putting course and Nike golf balls for the best score on the nine-hole course.

Children enjoyed having a go at hitting special balls into a target and had free tuition from Chichester Golf Academy’s resident PGA professional Tony Westwood.

He uses special SNAG(R) equipment which is bright, colourful and fun, and is very safe for children to use. The equipment is used in the regular children’s lessons held by the academy.

To add a bit of fun to the day, WKB Toyota sponsored a hole in one competition where anyone getting a hole in one on the third hole of the 18-hole Tower course could win a brand new Toyota AYGO.

The odds of an amateur golfer getting a hole in one on a par-three hole are around 12,500/1 so everyone thought Toyota would be taking the car back to the showroom.

However, Andrew Brian had luck on his side on the day, beating the odds and getting a hole in one on the designated hole.

He couldn’t believe he had really won the prize and his family thought it was a joke when he rang them to give them the news. He modestly said it was a pure fluke and was in a state of shock that it happened on the right hole on the right day. SELSEY

There was a first piece of silver and name in gold on the boards for Vince Trump, who played his cards right in the winter knockout beating all his opponents through the winter months.

Playing the eight-time winner of this competition, Malcolm Cawte, in the final, Trump managed to claim victory on the 21st hole.

Presentation was made to the winner of the winter singles John Taylor Trophy, Trevor Plaistow. The final game of the competition was between Plaistow and Roger Browell with Plaistow winning two up.

BOGNOR

There was a good turnout by the ladies for a four-ball better-ball competition played off of three-quarters handicap.

Sixty Bognor ladies competed in the Jamie Creese medal competition, which was won by Angela Chandler.

Bognor veterans started their summer campaign with a local derby at Littlehampton which they won 7½-2½.

This was a fine performance by Bognor considering the difficulties of a tricky links course with excellent fast greens. The return fixture is at Bognor at the end of September.

AVISFORD PARK

The Saturday Stableford was won by Ryan Blackwood with 42 points. The midweek Stableford was taken by Nick Nolan with the same score.

The Lone Ranger competition was won by Steve Neill, Mark Higgins, Martin Whale and Nigel Strudwick with a nett score of 131. Runners-up were Chris Wall, Nick Finneran, Jeremy Newman and Jayson Walker with 132.

The senior medal was won in division one by Peter Smith with nett 65 and in division two by David Farrah with 64.
