Worthing Football Club have had back-to-back wins in cups this season but not in the Ryman League. They put that right at home to fellow-struggling Walton & Hersham on Saturday with a 2-0 success that gives hope that they can rise above the danger zone.

Town basketball heroes Worthing Thunder maintained their 100% start in the defence of their League Championship. They defeated Coventry Crusaders 99-71 at the Leisure Centre on Saturday evening, when the new banner celebrating their 2005-06 title was seen for the first time.

Latvian 6ft 7in forward Janis Ivanovskis put in a gigantic display with the most points and rebounds of any player (27 points, 21 rebounds). Scott Neely netted 26 for Crusaders but Thunder held sharpshooting Marcin Twierdzinski to just eight.

Worthing Rugby Club ran up a 74-7 home win over backmarkers Portsmouth in London 1. It was the top score of the day in the division but they stay locked in the joint-leadership with London Scottish and Ealing because they won handsomely, too. The Exiles put 48 on Barnes and Ealing 64 on Old Albanians.

In Kent-Sussex Regional hockey hockey, mid-table Worthing were beaten 5-1 away to third-placed Eastbourne but Penguin ended a run of three defeats in Division 1 with a 6-2 home win over Mid-Sussex.
