Worthing Thunder are in the National Cup Final for the first time. They followed in footsteps of the 1994 Worthing Bears by reaching the final of the basketball's oldest competiton with a 101-71 victory over PAWS London Capitals at the Leisure Centre on Sunday evening.

Their performance lurched from the abominable to the brilliant and they led by 30 points at half-time after going 8-2 down and looking in trouble as Capitals' highly athletic team shot out of the blocks. But after taking a third-quarter thrashing they came back to restore their margin and book a final against Manchester Magic at Birmingham NIA on January 7 (1pm).

Thunder on Saturday had moved another step towards the National Trophy semi-finals after another slow start before winning 89-76 at West Herts Warriors.

Worthing Football Club lost 3-1 at Chelmsford City in front of 734 in the Ryman League on Saturday. They went 3-0 down before Sam Gargan found the net in the 65th minute.

East Preston went to Littlehampton and beat the Sussex County League Division 1 basement boys only 1-0, while Arundel's trip to Chichester CU was postponed.Rustington had to work hard to beat bottom team Bosham 5-0 in Disvision 3.
