Why hails his Littlehampton side

LITTLEHAMPTON Ladies Football Club manager Kev Why praised his side after they completed the South East Counties League and Cup double on Sunday.

Golds, the Premier Division champions with 21 wins from 22 games, lifted the League Cup with a 6-2 win over Division 1 East team, Lloyds, from Gillingham.

Why said: "It's been a superb season. We were hoping to get promotion so to get the double is a huge bonus.

"We got into the Premier Division last year and had a good season.

This year, we saw no reason why we couldn't push on and win the league. We got a couple of new players in, Hollie Hinshelwood, Stacy Ryan and Claudia Vogel and then Kylie Wren came back to us from Watford.

"When Kylie came back, we moved Charlotte Bennett up front and she has been fantastic there for us.

"Wendy Grant has been superb all year. She is a class act and has been the backbone of the team. I just hope that all the girls learn from her.

"But, credit must go to the whole team for what they have achieved.

"It's nice to be able to represent Littlehampton Town. The girls are proud to be part of the club."

Next year, Golds will be in the London & South East Regional League - the same division as Tottenham Hotspur. Why said: "We've still got to look to improve. We will have to get new players in and are always on the look-out."

Grant was Golds' leading scorer with 47 in all competitions this season. Captain Bennett netted 24, Vogel struck 15 and Marcela Kollarikova 14.
