Why Rachael, Tracy and Nadine loved Fontwell's Ladies' Evening

One was jockey Rachael Green, who kept up her exceptional record at the track with a winner - another was Tracy Skinner, who was overseeing her first race meeting since taking over as racecourse general manager.

And it wasn’t a bad night out for the £2,000 winner of the evening’s best-dressed lady contest.

Thousands packed into the figure-of-eight track for one of Fontwell’s biggest occasions of the year.

The new boss, 34, has joined Fontwell from Newcastle racecourse, where she was commercial manager. She said: “Ladies’ Evening was a great success and I’m delighted to get my first raceday under my belt.

“This is one of Fontwell Park’s most prolific race meetings and I’m looking forward to making it bigger and better next year.”

Ladies got out their best outfits in the hope of winning the £2,000 prize for being best-dressed. Crawley’s Nadine Hillman, 26, was delighted to be judged the winner

Jockey Green made it five wins from nine Fontwell starts with a success on 7/1 favourite Dorset Naga for Anthony Honeyball in the ABP Port of Southampton Novices’ Handicap Chase.

Nick Scholfield, one of Fontwell’s most consistent performers, took the Yeomans Honda Handicap Hurdle on 13/8 favourite On The Bridge.

The Courtesan Boutique Handicap Hurdle was won in superb style thanks to a late charge to the front by Brendan Powell junior riding The Lemonpie (6/1) for his dad Brendan senior.

The meeting got off to the perfect start for trainer Tim Vaughan - who had a four-timer at the corresponding fixture last year - when he saw Michael Byrne take the Q Hair And Beauty 40th Anniversary Novices’ Hurdle on 9/2 shot Ivan Vasilevich.

Kevin Jones and Zhukov (17/2) won the Anthony Ward-Thomas Master Remover Handicap Chase.

Sussex trainer/rider duo Gary Moore and son Jamie took the House of Q Hair And Beauty Juvenile Hurdle with Gigondas (12/1). The Northover Fuels Home Heating Oils Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race went to Jack Quinlan on Petie McSweetie.

Fontwell’s next card is another evening meeting next Thursday (August 30).
