WICKERS GO FOR SAFETY

THIS WAS a point with which Southwick manager Sammy Donnelly was more than happy.

A goalless draw at East Brighton Park may not seem the sort of result to make one content, but it sets out the path to safety for Wickers.

Donnelly explained: "Today's point was virtually like another three for us, when you consider that Sidlesham lost again. Now we are four points ahead of them with three games left. If we win on Friday at home to Peacehaven and they lose on Saturday at home to Whitehawk, or Eastbourne United drop points at Three Bridges, then we are safe.

"The game today was fairly tight, with few chances and I would have to say that I am happy with a point. Damian Webber was immense today. He held the defence together well, and Danny Smith was oustanding in midfield."
