Wickers lose at Westfield

SOUTHWICK Football Club suffered their third consecutive defeat on Saturday, although they showed promising signs and welcomed back Tony Timms, who has re-joined the club from Shoreham.

Timms was oustanding in defence and Wickers' man of the match as they suffered their fifth defeat in six games following a seven-match unbeaten run.

Southwick were without eight first-team players and went behind after just five minutes when Danny Pepper headed in a short corner routine.

Wickers had chances to equalise in the opening period but Shepherd shot straight at the home keeper and Jordan Saunders scuffed an effort wide.

Westfield doubled their lead 10 minutes after half-time when Pepper was allowed another free header from a corner. Within eight minutes, Southwick were back in the game. Shepherd was brought down in the penalty area and Lee Thompson fired the spot-kick into the top corner.

However, 11 minutes from time, Thompson gave away a penalty and Duncan Jones restored Westfield's two-goal advantage.

SOUTHWICK: Cheal; Rahaman, Thompson, T.Timms, Lipscombe; Ricky Timms, Green, J.Elliott, Saunders; Shepherd, Bean. Subs: Poulter, Steele, Stideford (Shepherd, Elliott, Saunders 85).
