Wind whips in for inter-school clash

BURGESS Hill School for Girls held its 10th annual inter-school, individual and team show jumping competition at the Town Place Equestrian Centre in Scaynes Hill.

The successful event once again attracted entries from a wide variety of schools, with junior and senior age groups represented.

The rain held off until the evening, although towards the end of the competition the arena parties were hard-pressed to stop the increasingly strong wind demolishing jumps before the horses.

Head of art Monica Carruthers, who also organises the school's equestrian activities, said: "The aim of the show has always been to provide a happy and relaxed atmosphere where the less-practised rider can gain in confidence and experience, while presenting a challenge for riders more familiar with competition at a higher level."
