Winter won't stop tennis action at Chichester

Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club hosted an eight-and-under red-ball matchplay tennis event.

This was a grade-six mixed singles tournament and was the first in the series of junior tennis tournaments being staged at the club over the winter competition season.

The event had ten entries and was run using a round-robin format of two groups of five. The players each played a first-to-ten-point tie-break in each match.

The top two qualifiers from each group progressed to the semi-finals, where Thomas Bisatt beat Willem Sweet 11-9 and James Pollard beat Toby Toft 10-5.

In the tournament final, Pollard beat Bisatt 10-7 to be awarded the gold medal, with Sweet beating Toft 10-8, to claim third place.

Tournament organiser Peter Cook said: “It’s very heartening to see so many of these red ball players playing such a good level of mini tennis. The number of entries is also very encouraging; we will look to do even more events for this age group in the future.”
