WORTHING HIT ROAD RUNNING

WORTHING opened their account on enemy territory in their new division on Saturday to allay fears among kneejerk doubters that they have been promoted a level too far.

Promise seen during their home defeat to Thanet Wanderers a week earlier blossomed in an improvement which brought them domination over a more experienced pack in all phases of play.

Head of Rugby, Ian Davies, remarked: "Sutton are no mugs. They've done well in the Powergen Cup and last season they were fifth with 11 wins and 11defeats. It was a competitive division then and people are saying to me it will be even more competitive this season. The sides coming into it are strong '” Havant and Camberley who were relegated from the National League, and Bishops Stortford, Old Albanians and ourselves who were promoted.

"Two of our three defeats have come in injury time at the end of matches we should have won. Today we tweaked our team framework a bit, and it worked."

More details in Worthing Herald on October 16.
