Worthing League rue their penalty chance

MARC LINBERRY had the chance to put Worthing into a second lead against Mid-Sussex at Hassocks.

But, having already given them a 15th-minute lead in their Sussex Inter-League tie after a run of 30 yards, then seen Mid-Sussex equalise from long range, he stepped up to take the penalty after the outstanding Lucky Gohler was upended.

But his spot-kick was saved and, despite a promising Worthing spell in the second half, they were beaten 3-1 with goals in the last 14 minutes that came against the flow of play.

A Worthing midfield mid-kick led to the first, and the second, nine minutes from time, was a streaky clincher. A seemingly unintentional effort on goal from a toe-poke curled high into the Worthing net.
