Worthing ready for prestigious Super Sevens Series

WORTHING Rugby Club will host their very first tournament of the prestigious Super Sevens Series this weekend.

It’ll all be about the sevens at Roundstone Lane as seven players play for seven minutes a half with £7,000 up for grabs for the overall tournament winners.

The eagerly anticipated weekend will be the most prestigious rugby tournament Worthing has ever seen, with the most professional rugby players ever to play in the town.

There’ll be 16 teams in action over the weekend – with appearances from both the Holland and Nigeria national teams – as they compete to determine the winner of the Worthing leg of the series.

With the British Students, Emerging Wales and Templar 7s joining last year’s teams I-Sybergy Kamikaze, White Hart Marauders, Samurai Barracudas, SocialVibe Pups’, Burrda Sport Ronin, Ramblin Jesters, Akuma Exiles, The HFW Wailers, Apache 7s and a Worthing side, it promises to be a real nail-biter with all of the teams looking to clinch the sought-after SSS 2012 trophy.

Worthing chairman Brian Vincent said: “Being chosen to host the Super Sevens is a huge honour for Worthing Rugby Club.

“There are over 2,500 rugby clubs in England and only four get to display the fabulous standard that the Super Sevens brings to their local communities.

“We are one of those select four and it’s really important to us that we can show the people of Worthing just how fantastic sevens rugby can be.

“We’re aiming to make the tournament our best ever, with stalls, entertainment, good food and drink, great rugby and a great atmosphere.”

In first leg, held at Bury St Edmunds on May 6, the overall winners were Barracudas, with Templars 7s runners-up.

After Worthing the tournament is off to Cardiff on June 9, before finishing in Caldy on June 23.

As well as the Super Sevens Series on Saturday, the club will be hosting their own Worthing sevens tournament on Sunday.
