Worthing silence Siya

WORTHING became the team who did what others before them shied from, then counted the ways in which victory tasted so sweet on Saturday.

They collectively objected to the verbal antics '” at the crease and then reportedly heckling from the pavilion boundary '” of Littlehampton's overseas player Siya Sibiya, the South African all-rounder, then upset the predictions to overhaul the high-riders.

Experienced keeper John Kaye led the protests to Sibiya as the teams left the field between innings and umpire Terry Urben called out the captains, David Rogers and Benn Challen, asked Challen to identify the miscreant and then the captains to diffuse the situation.

To cut short his taunts while batting, Rogers and Kaye had tempted Sibiya, 19, into hooking at a short Greg Dowell delivery and top-edging to mid-wicket for just 11. Sibiya apologised after the match.
