After a short break, the West Sussex Fun League recommenced with the ever-popular four-mile Highdown Hike organised by Worthing Striders.

This is a challenging two-lap cross-country run over an undulating course of paths and trails with a very steep climb to the finish.

Chichester Runners had 25 entrants out of a field of 330 runners and earned an excellent total of 80 points finishing joint third.

The team were led home by James Pennicott in fourth place closely followed by Ed Porter in 12th. Fay Cripps finished 28th and was first woman overall.

Also high up in the standings at 42nd and 45th respectively were Josh Bappoo and David Pike, followed by David Jobe at 58th and Alan Rowley at last fulfilling his potential in 65th.

There was a little gap to the next group comprising Angus Farrelly in 94th, Michael Moorcroft 106th, Don Faircloth 107th, Tony Cooley 109th, Jan Hill 112th and Mark Hazlewood 113th. They were followed by David Knight 129th, Neil Simpson 139th, Tom Blaylock 142nd, Derek Pennicott 158th, Nicky Hill 160th, Gary Tompsett 161st and Tracy Jayant 184th.

The remaining team members contributing to the points tally were Dave Barty 222nd, Sue Barty 228th, Jess Daniels 245th, Jill Renson 256th and Rophina Yeld 263rd.

This was an excellent result keeping the club at the top end of the league table with several races still left this season.

On the same evening seven club members undertook the fourth race in the Portsmouth Promenade 5k series.

James Baker won the event in a close sprint finish in a time of 15.23min. Jane Harrop maintained her 100 per cent record by finishing as the first Masters 50 competitor in 53rd.

The other runners were Andrew Moore 62nd, Terry Healy 82nd, Andrew Harrop 104th, Darren Knight 118th and Sue Baker 132nd.
