The sprinters stole the headlines with Sophie-Anne Haigh delighted to notch two personal bests during the afternoon.

First Haigh was too quick for the rest of the field in the under-17 100m and was rewarded with a 12.4sec clocking which shaved two tenths of a second from her previous best, set last season, and propels her into the top 20 in the UK rankings.

Later a 25.4sec 200m was an equally-impressive win to knock four tenths from her best and achieve a national top-20 ranking.

Jess Breach continued her fine season with a 12.5sec clocking to win the under-20 event and completed a treble with wins in the shot and long jump which bode well for a probable attempt at the heptathlon later in the season.

Supporting well were Caitlin Moore, winning the B string 100m and 200m in the under-20 races, and Mia Faulkner in the under-17s.

These two joined Haigh and Breach for a fast 4x100m relay late for a close second place.

There was a mixture of sprint and middle distance in the men’s events, where Brandon Bell was near to his best in the 200m and 400m while Benedict Robinson and Michael Thomas provided a useful pairing in both 800m and 1,500m.

Chichester’s under-17s and under-20s will combine with their senior team-mates for the next Southern Athletics League fixture which the club are hosting at the same Portsmouth venue on Sunday, May 31.
