The three schools have been part of the Cricket Foundation-funded programme for around ten weeks and the skills they learnt were put to the test in a tournament hosted by West Wittering Cricket Club and the Sussex Cricket Board.

More than 50 pupils took part, with others spectating and even cheerleading.

Sussex CCC mascot Sid the Shark was on hand to provide entertainment throughout the day and also presented the ashes urn to the tournament winners, West Wittering Primary School.

James White, West Wittering CC member and the coach responsible for all three schools, said: “It is fantastic to see how well all the pupils have progressed over the past ten weeks. It is great to have the support of the club and the cricket board in hosting such an event and we will look to make this an annual tournament.”

Chance to Shine has proved successful all over the county and West Wittering’s colts’ section has grown yet again.
