Local favourite and Pavilion member Mark Strong made it into the last 16 of the Jack of Clubs singles event before losing out in a tie-break to Gary Fountain.

Strong’s defeat was no disgrace, though, as Fountain met Young in the final.

Young, of Wey Valley Bowls Club eventually took the crown with a 7-7, 9-4 success and took home a prize fund of £1,000.

Fountain was not to leave the event empty handed, though, as he managed to take the top prize in the Ian Hart sponsored Bounty Hunter event.

Jack of Clubs Open organiser Warwick Davis was delighted with how the event went and said: “It was a really fantastic weekend of Bowls action.

“it proved to be really popular and I think everyone enjoyed us holding it in Worthing.
