Young tennis talent alive and well in Chichester

Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club hosted a south east winter club tour nine-and-under boys' singles event.

This grade-five boys’ tournament was organised using a round-robin format of seven players, giving everyone six matches, and each match comprised a championsghip tie-break to ten points, with two points clear.

Diego Savage Melendez was the runner-up and collected the silver medal, losing 10-7 in the final to Jamie Holligon, who collected the gold medal.

Both competitors also play their tennis and receive coaching with the Chichester Tennis Academy at Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club.

Competition organiser and tournament referee Peter Cook said: “It was a really fantastic effort from all the competitors, with tennis of an extremely high standard and played with an excellent spirit.

“It was also encouraging to see players who receive their coaching with the Chichester Tennis Academy doing so well too.”
