The St Richard's girls team qualified as top secondary school and will attempt to successfully defend their title against other local authorities from around the county at Broadbridge Heath.

The competition, built on development work carried out in local schools by Tony Ashby of Sussex Rugby Coaching, benefited not just the winning teams on the day but provided an opportunity for many more youngsters to take part in the game.

Adrian Gaylon, Rother District Council's sports development officer, said: "It was great to see the Polegrove packed with so many young people playing sport. I am pleased that Rother District Council was able to work with schools and Sussex Rugby Coaching to put on the day. Hopefully some will continue to play the game and the winning teams representing the district will be successful once again at the BAA Sussex Youth Games."
