Glyndebourne’s latest community opera Imago will feature 66 amateur performers from Sussex recruited via open auditions to perform on the main stage on March 7. Performers come from locations including Littlehampton, Burgess Hill, Coldwaltham, Haywards Heath and Lindfield. In the main, the singers are from Brighton, Lewes, Eastbourne, Hastings, St Leonards, Uckfield etc.
Spokeswoman Vicky Kington: “Imago is set in virtual reality with a cast of 90 amateur performers recruited via open auditions from across the South East. Participants range in age from teenagers to those in their 70s. They perform alongside five professional opera singers in a project designed to develop amateur talent. “Imago is the first community opera at Glyndebourne since Knight Crew in 2010 and continues Glyndebourne’s 25-year history of delivering innovative education work. The opera is composed by Brighton-based Orlando Gough with a libretto by Stephen Plaice.
