HIS was one of the great names of 20th century culture, right up there with Picasso, Dior and The Beatles, and forever linked with the impact of fame.
Now Andy Warhol’s famous and groundbreaking images are to go on display at the De La Warr Pavilion and in anticipation leading style commentator Peter York has been invited to open the exhibition.
Peter became well known for his musings on England’s upper classes and its place in modern society when he wrote the Official Sloane Ranger Handbook and dreamed up the phrase that would pass into everyday language in the 1980’s as well as the dictionary.
He went on to become an oft-consulted expert in stylish and social mores and his writing was published in collections such as Style ‘wars and Modern Times.
More recently he published Peter York’s Eighties which became an BBC TV series and, in 2005, Dictator Style: Lifestyles of the World’s Most Colourful Despots and. later on, The Return of the Sloane Ranger. He is currently working on a book about the fashion photographer Jim Lee.
As a cultural and social commentator, Peter York was invited to contribute to the DLWP’s new book, WARHOL IS HERE, and will no doubt expand further when he opens the exhibition offically tomorrow.
