Burgess Hill Choral Society is up and running and ready to welcome new members this autumn.

From Monday, September 14 at 8pm they will be holding weekly rehearsals on Zoom.

They will be preparing a range of music this term including Vivaldi’s Gloria, seasonal music, part songs, madrigals and choruses from major works. They are working towards a virtual recording later in the year “if as seems likely”, they are unable to have a live concert.

Musical director Mike Wood said: “We’ve got some really exciting plans. As we’re still not able to meet face to face, or side by side, we’re going to continue with Zoom rehearsals, which have been so successful over the summer. People have found it really worthwhile and a good learning tool for getting to grips with the works. Full support is available to anyone not familiar with the technology, which has turned out to be very easy to use.”

Spokeswoman Frances Eales said:” The format has been really enjoyable. We start with Mike giving some instruction, along with our accompanist Phillip Sear, then break off into section ‘rooms’ to practise our parts, then come back together and sing along to a video of Mike conducting along with a recording of a full choir and orchestra. One of the things all choir members agree on is the sense of achievement they get out of being in BHCS.”

Alto singer Judith Conway said: “Right from the start I found everyone very helpful and supportive as I got to grips with the intricacies of choral singing. One of the great pleasures for me has been getting to know some really beautiful music.”

Frances added: “The choir is non-auditioned and we welcome all singers, whether you are experienced or new to choral music. For more information about the choir and how to try some rehearsals, visit us at www.burgesshillchoralsociety.org.uk or phone 07522 493966.”
