The CFMDS choir section on Saturday, March 14 and the Festival Concert on Saturday, March 21 have both been cancelled – news which comes just hours after both the Midhurst Players and the West Wittering Players cancelled their spring productions.

Festival chairman Jenifer Pressdee said: “Due to the concerns over the coronavirus spreading the Choir Section due to be held at the Central School Academy has been cancelled for this coming weekend as well our Festival Concert which was due to be held at the Bishop Luffa School on Saturday, March 21 at 6.30pm.

“This is the first time in memory that we have cancelled events and we are all extremely disappointed. Sadly we have been told that the situation will escalate and therefore we had to take advice on this which was that it would be unwise for us to run the events.

“It is a shame as this year we had a great number of new supporters for the festival and some very impressive performances across the 14 sections.”
