Dazzling recital and textile show

Alexander Eadon began his musical life as a chorister in King’s College, Cambridge. After five years as a music scholar at Harrow School and a gap year as organ scholar at St Martin in the Fields he trained at the Royal Academy of Music in organ performance, improvisation and choral direction, completing his studies at Middlesex University.

Alongside this, he was director of music at Christ Church, Southgate in North London, and conductor of the Southgate Symphony Orchestra. He then spent two years as organist at Tewkesbury Abbey and at Dean Close School, Cheltenham. From 2009 he was choirmaster at Oundle School moving to Eastbourne College as assistant director of music in 2015.

He is regularly found on concert hall platforms and in ecclesiastical buildings the world over. Performances have included the Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall as well as many UK cathedrals and trips to France and the USA.

As a singer, he is a regular deputy of several cathedral choirs and other ensembles, and was one of the founder members of the internationally award-winning vocal ensemble The Songmen.

The music will very varied with some familiar and some not so well-known songs.

Each year Eastbourne College textiles pupils have the opportunity to collaborate with fashion students from the Hetzendorf Fashion Institute in Vienna. The Fashion Institute is located in the breath-taking Hetzendorf Palace dating from the 17th century, and students at the school immerse themselves in fashion and textiles for five years. Approximately thirty students from the Vienna Fashion Institute will spend two afternoons working collaboratively with textiles GCSE and A-level students using obsolete CCF maps and discarded paper patterns to make sculptural paper creations.

A showcase of their work will be displayed in the Jennifer Winn auditorium and a selection of students from both schools will be talking about their work to guests and hosts families. This collaboration is part of the Eastbourne College and Vienna Fashion Institute biennial exchange programme. The event is being held in the Birley Centre on Wednesday March 9, 6pm.
