Eastbourne's Rattonians forced to postpone their summer show

42nd Street was scheduled for the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne from July 27-August 1. Sadly it won’t now be going ahead.

Spokeswoman Melanie Adams said: “In these difficult times for theatre it is no surprise that The Rattonians have had to postpone their production of 42nd Street. Although the company have already invested in the production, the need for safe distancing for both cast and audiences made it impossible to continue.”

Mark and Melanie Adams have promised to reschedule the show and are working with Eastbourne Theatres to find a slot for them that will work with the cast and production team.

“Advance payments have to be made for copyright, set, costumes etc. We have our spare room full of sequins and shoes as we started to prepare but they will see the bright lights in time!

“So 2021 will see at least two shows for The Rattonians – Shrek The Musical is booked in for July at the Congress Theatre and once they can secure a slot at the theatre for 42nd Street it will be full steam ahead.

“As one of the team’s favourite shows, choreographer Jan Lynton said she is so disappointed that it will have to wait but it will be worth the wait! Rob Cousins, musical director, also has the job of rescheduling the musicians who were booked and Ray Grove, production manager is liaising with the scenic company. It is an extraordinary time for us all – and theatre is hit hard. “

Melanie said she and Mark were really appreciative of the support the group have been shown by those who had already booked tickets and their “enthusiasm to come whenever the curtain goes up.”
