Hastings composer Polo Piatti offers a concert of his works - and the stories behind them

Composer Polo Piatti and a group of talented young musicians chosen by him will be performing a selection of his music and offering the stories behind their creation, all in the comfort of the reopened Opus Theatre.

Special guests include local soprano Thomasine Trezise, multi-award-winning flautist Daisy Noton, violinist Laura Rickard, pianist Berniya Hamie, clarinet talent Galina Baxter, young cellist Riya Hamie plus a special appearance from the shanty singers Sound Of Rock-A-Nore.

The evening offers the chance to enjoy some of Polo’s most moving and well-known compositions including Lullaby For A Clown, Duty Sublime, Agitato, Bohemian Cadenza, Impromptu and excerpts from his recently premiered Old World Cello Concerto.

Polo is an award-winning British-Argentine composer and concert pianist. He is considered a leading neo-romantic composer for the concert hall.

Polo believes strongly that harmonious music is able to generate deep positive emotions and, in doing so, contribute greatly to a much better world today.

Widely considered a pioneer performer of non-jazz piano improvisations, he has completed several tours since his youth as a soloist and with orchestras throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America.

His latest commissions include his multi-faith oratorio Libera Nos, his Christmas Concerto for Guitar & Orchestra and his Old World Concerto for Cello & Orchestra.

Polo is founder and director of the Opus Theatre which he reopened after the pandemic earlier this year.

“The venue has been open for five years. It is a 700-seat venue and it is beautiful but it was shut during the pandemic and during the pandemic we had water damage as well. It was shut for more than two years.”
