Heroic, romantic music from Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Crawley's Hawth

Beginning the evening is a piece composed by Wagner as a love letter to his new domestic bliss; Siegfried Idyll was first performed on the stairs of his home to wake his beloved wife.

From German Romanticism to Spanish dance rhythms, the orchestra will then enthral audiences with a performance of Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjeuz.

The highlight of the evening is Beethoven’s Symphony No.3, ‘Erioca’, the first great symphony to have captured the Romantic imagination. With the breathtaking sweep of the opening movement being counterbalanced by a vast funeral march of nerve-shredding intensity, this piece aims to embody a heroic spirit.

Prior to the performance, there will be a pre-concert talk with music writer and lecturer Terry Barfoot. Terry will offer an introduction to Beethoven’s Symphony at 6.30pm in the theatre.

A three-course, waitress-served meal is available from 5pm in the Spotlight restaurant. Please book in advance.
