Roll up for The Broadway Players with two new shows

Having been in show business for over 35 years and performing as a singer all over the world, Jade Powers was thrilled last year to win the Kent & Sussex Woman in Business Award.

This was in recognition of how much she has given to the worlds of entertainment and media.

Jade has co-owned the Sussex Dance Studios for 16 years although the school itself has been in existence for over 70 years.

There are more than 150 pupils and Jade believes this is the most successful established school in Eastbourne.

She said: “Aside from this, I also run The Power Project - a musical group for those with special needs or disabilities. This is now in its fourth year and going from strength to strength. At the same time I devised a musical package for the elderly or those with Dementia/Alzheimers. This is a wonderful gift to be given - I now sing and entertain the poorly and elderly three or four times a week at various homes all over the town, and the pleasure I see on these lovely folks faces is worth so much. From the smallest Little Angel classes where the children win wings and wands as they progress in ballet through to the eldest of 100 whom I am doing a special party for on May 18 - I seem to be able to entertain them all.”

Jade has spent ten years directing and producing shows locally but at Christmas decided to go it along and The Broadway Players Production Company was born, which Jade describes as “scary, stupid, and very exciting.”

The group’s first shows are Stepping Out from adult members and Bugsy Malone from the youth team on July 1/2/3 at the Royal Hippodrome Theatre. Stepping Out will be on Friday July 1 at 7.45pm, Saturday 2nd July at 7.45pm, and Sunday July 3 at 3.30 pm.
