Towner Eastbourne offers creative activities amid the hardship

Director Joe Hill said: “As we enter a second lockdown, we are designing and distributing a new series of activity packs that will make life a little better for the most vulnerable families in Eastbourne and Seaford.

“Each pack will include four editions with different activities that encourage people to step outside and find natural materials to create and make.”

Esther Collins, head of learning and engagement, said: “Working with Shinewater Primary School, Willingdon Trees Community Centre in Hampden Park, and Waves in Seaford, families and households will receive the packs that aim to inspire imagination and creativity and develop design and making skills.

“This project is the next phase in directly supporting the health and wellbeing of our local community.

“It follows the last lockdown project where we distributed over a thousand free packs to vulnerable households. Thanks to donors and our amazing partners, Eastbourne Food Bank, Community Stuff, the Association of Carers, Holding Space, 3VA, Brighton Women’s Refuge (in Eastbourne), Eastbourne Networx supporting refugees/asylum seekers and the Enthum Foundation supporting unaccompanied refugee children, we were able to get packs to those whose need is greatest.”

Jill Murphy, Waves Family Worker (Seaford), confirmed: “Families whose children would normally receive free school meals received Towner’s activity packs in their food parcels which meant 54 children had help with their home-schooling. A further 49 children received the packs via The Cabin’s art and youth clubs.”
