Now they're getting ready for a string of performances and are working on writing their own material.

The boys played at the Warnham Comrades Club on Saturday, drawing a good crowd of all ages.

Sam said: "All our gigs are good for getting us used to playing in front of people, we want to get as much experience as possible, and I think our confidence has improved a lot.

"We really enjoy it. We play a couple of Slade songs, some ACDC, Queen and Bryan Adams, all sorts of things really.

"And we're raising money to make a CD with all of our songs on which will help us get better - we can play it and hear where we need to improve and work on those areas."

The boys are helped in the band by dad Robbie Holder and his bandmate from Status Quo tribute act Quo-Caine, Andy Hosegood. They hope that in the future they'll find other musicians their own age to join them.

Sam, who goes to Bohunt School in Horsham, said: "I'm doing more lead guitar now, on Summer of 69, All Right Now, and I do a bit of lead on Wanted Dead or Alive.

"We've had some really good gigs. We played at an under-18s showcase at the Rec Rooms which was a nice warm up gig , and we'll be playing in Barns Green in a couple of weeks, and Funday Sunday in Horsham Park in the summer."

Asked about their favourite songs in their set list Ben, who goes to Warnham Primary, says: "I like Learn to Fly by the Foo Fighters best."

Sam adds: "I don't know, I like them all... probably one of the Queen ones, like Hammer to Fall.

"We're writing our own songs. We like rock, not really heavy metal or too pop, we like it in the middle. At the moment we've got a few bits and bobs coming together, we're still working on them."

You can see Lightning play at Barns Green Social Club on Saturday March 21 and Saturday June 6; Broadbridge Heath Village Centre on Saturday, May 9; and Funday Sunday in Horsham Park on Sunday, July 5.
