Harold Mockford exhibition in Newhaven opens (Aug 31-Sept 2)

AN EXHIBITION showing the work of well known artist Harold Mockford will be staged in Newhaven at the Hillcrest Centre (Aug 31-Sept 2).

The View from Newhaven focuses on his later Newhaven paintings and also celebrates his 80th birthday.

The exhibition opens today (Friday August 31) from 6pm-9pm when View from Newhaven Ale, brewed by Harveys of Lewes, will be available.

The bottles even feature one of Harold’s iconic paintings.

There will be a silent auction of a Mockford painting, donated by the artist, with proceeds going to the Hillcrest Centre. Written bids will be accepted up to 5pm on Sunday, September 2.

Free workshops on how to paint like Harold Mockford will be available for children led by local artist and teacher Carol Havard.

Sessions on Saturday and Sunday morning from 11am to 1pm for children aged from five and on both afternoons from 2pm to 4pm for older children.

The exhibition and workshops have been sponsored by the Arts Council with support from Newhaven Town Council and local businesses, including printmakers Harwood King and St Anne’s Galleries in Lewes.

It is part of Lewes District Council’s Artwave festival.

The exhibition continues on September 1 and 2 from 11am to 6pm.
