Mother and son have spontaneous art styles

Swedish-based artist Joseph Davey is heading back to England to exhibit for a third time with his mother Lindy Dunbar at the Hop Gallery in Lewes.

The show comprises landscapes, portraits and life drawings, in oil and mixed media.

Lindy’s work is spontaneous and fluid. She celebrates the human form, capturing fleeting tensions and movements with a considered elegance and constant emphasis on the quality of mark making.

She has again been invited to be the Artist in Residence at a Rambert Contemporary Dance workshop.

Based in Sussex, Lindy exhibits both at home and abroad, selling regularly. She also tutors in St Andrew’s Art School, Lewes, and her work is sold in John Lewis and at the Battersea Art Fair. Lindy is a member of The Society of Sussex Painters , The Eastbourne Group of Artists and The Attic Club.

Mark making is also very dominant in Joseph’s work. It is free, loose and lively, demonstrating his passion for looking through the medium of oil painting. His searching and masterly paintings are sensitively worked and depict light and form with strength.

Davey lives and works in Sweden. He is represented by galleries in Edinburgh, Stockholm and his home town Östersund.

This mother and son duo exhibit together to observe a professional relationship that has developed alongside the familiar.

Their life-long connection echoes through the exhibition as a delicate undertone that’s testament to their relationship, both professional and familiar, but never sentimental.

Östersund to Sussex – Mother and Son runs at the Hop Gallery, Lewes, until Thursday, November 13.

The exhibition is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10.30am to 5pm, and Sunday, from 12pm to 5pm. The show is closed Mondays.

The Hop Gallery is located at Star Brewery, Castle Ditch Lane, Lewes. Call 01273 487744.
