Inside Outside Exhibition, Hop Gallery, Star Brewery, Castle Ditch Lane, Lewes, until

August 5.

INSIDE Outside offers an exhibition of paintings, prints and drawings by Dominic Evergreen.

Dominic is promising colourful, lively paintings and themes including both exterior and interior scenes in oil and watercolour.

The paintings, often thickly layered, invite the viewer to explore both their surfaces and their depths. Tending to suggest forms rather than to define them, these paintings provide an opportunity for imagination and interpretation, Dominic says: “I sometimes think that it is the viewer who, by looking at the painting, completes it.”

After a foundation course at Maidstone College of Art Dominic studied art at Oxford Polytechnic (now Oxford Brookes University). He has practised in group studios and has shared exhibitions in Oxford and in Brighton, exhibiting as a member of The Sussex Arts Collective and taking part in several Artists Open House schemes including Artwave in Lewes and Open Houses in Brighton and in Hove.

Dominic has had wide experience in the visual arts, including working with digital and 3D graphics but states, “painting has been around either in the foreground or background for most of my life.”

Dominic lives and paints near the Brighton seafront, enjoying the “changing hues, light and moods of the sea.” The sea’s distant horizon is a focal point of many of his paintings.

Gallery open: Tuesday-Saturday, 10.30am-5pm; Sunday 12 noon-5pm.
