Poets encouraged to submit pieces for competition

A unique competition for Sussex Poets has been launched.

The competition is the first open solely to people who have a connection with Sussex.

Brighton & Hove Arts Council and Rottingdean Writers Group are collaborating to invite established and novice poets to submit their work.

There are three cash prizes:

First: The Wellesley prize for Sussex Poets 2013 is for £750.

Second: The English Language Centre prize is £250.

Third: The Chalk Gallery prize is £100.

Dr John Mc Cullough, prizewinning poet and teacher of creative writing at Sussex University and the Open University is the judge. His first collection The Frost Fairs (Salt) won the Polari Prize for 2012. His poems are often set in Sussex. The closing date for entries is October 31 with winners notified in January 2014.

Entry forms, rules and regulations of the competition can be found on www.bh-arts.org.uk or www.rottingdeanwritersgroup.co.uk .
