Auditions for musical Gel

Budding actors aged 10 to 17 are needed for the summer show. The workshop and auditions will take place at Southwick's Barn Theatre, in Southwick Street, from 10am on Sunday, February 24.

A pre-registration pack is available in the reception area of Southwick Community Centre, or by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope to Southwick Players Youth, care of the centre.

Gel, to be performed from July 23 to 26, tells the story of a youth theatre company putting on a show.

Besides the normal problems encountered '“ and the normal teenage pressures the company face '“ they also have to contend with the unwelcome attentions of a street gang trying to wreck their efforts.

Southwick Players president David Otway said: "With a compelling rock score, which includes some beautiful ballads, it it matched by a sharp and funny script. Like all good musicals, it switches seamlessly from drama to comedy, to lighter moments, and has a powerful, feel-good ending."
