British Opera from Opera South East

IN the first of two charity concerts this summer Opera South East is showcasing opera written in English, for instance Gershwin's Porgy and Bess and Britten's Peter Grimes.

The choice of Opera Britannica is inspired by the group's recent English full production, the double bill of Trial by Jury and Dido and Aeneas.

Special guest, baritone Matthew Craven of Cameo Opera (Italian Way nights) fame, will be joining them for this major fundraiser in aid of the local Blind Association (Hastings and Rother Voluntary Association for the Blind '“ an essential lifeline charity for many isolated people.

St Matthew's Church in London Road is the venue for this big event in the Blind Association calendar.

Tickets, priced 7.50, are available from their office, 383 Battle Road (Hastings 853711), the Taplin Centre in Upper Maze Hill, any of the association shops (in Ore, Silverhill or Bexhill) or on the door.

The concert is on Thursday June 14 at 7.30pm and is followed up on Friday June 15 and Saturday June 16 by collecting days at Morrison's, so have more than 1 for the trolley ready in cash when shopping next weekend.
