EXHIBITION: Carvings and claywork in Worthing

The exhibition is entitled Carvings and Claywork and features 40 examples of the artist's work.

Jon's work features strong local connections and, after returning to live in West Sussex, he drew inspiration from Elisabeth Frink's Desert Quartet in Worthing.

The exhibition will be Worthing's first solo show of his work and will run for 12 weeks, until June 19.

Jon, who attended the Frink School of Figurative Sculpture, said: "I'm West Sussex born and bred, and Worthing is close to my birth place in Rustington.

"Worthing is quite a forward-thinking place. Hopefully, there will be people who are touched by it in some way."

Some of the sculptures are made from Sussex marble, quarrying for which ended 100 years ago.

There is also a bust of Duncan Carse, an Antarctic explorer who lived in Fittleworth for 40 years.

The works, made from stone, clay and wood, will be displayed in stages throughout four areas of the museum.

Combined, Jon's sculptures weigh nearly two tonnes, making the collection and display of these items a considerable challenge.
