HISTORY: Friends of Broadwater Cemetery heritage learning sessions

THE Friends of Broadwater Cemetery will be running free heritage learning sessions for people to find out about the history of the cemetery and the people buried there.

The sessions will be paid for by the Heritage Lottery Fund, which includes money for an A to Z of the most significant burials, a book on military burials at the cemetery and a full, definitive history of the cemetery to be written by historian Paul Robards.

The sessions will be presented by Worthing historian Chris Hare at the Sidney Walter Centre, in Sussex Road, on Saturday afternoons, with the first starting on April 17.

Although it is free to take part, places are limited and need to be booked.

Those attending will also have the opportunity to go on three guided walks round Worthing during the summer.

Chris said: "The Friends of Broadwater Cemetery are doing vital work for the heritage of the town. There is far more to the cemetery than just dead bodies; it is actually a record of the life of the town over 150 years."
