Much ado at castle

THE SPECTACULAR sight of Shakespeare performed within the grounds of Arundel castle is set to reappear.

The first ever festival, in 1977, featured an open-air play by the Bard, in the gardens. It became an integral part of the event, until its demise three years ago.

Its return has been announced, though no details are to be confirmed until early spring.

The festival will take place from 22 to 31 August, and will also include opera in the castle's famous Barons' Hall.

Other upcoming events at the castle include an MG car rally, on March 30, and a late medieval knights and men-at-arms tournament.

This will take place, alongside a tented encampment and archery demonstration, on April 12 and 13.

The world famous Corpus Christi festival takes place in Arundel Cathedral on May 21 and 22.

The cathedral will be filled with floral displays, including a 30m carpet of flowers.
