MUSIC: Talented tenor to sing at Bognor music club's concert

Club spokesman Chris Coote said: "In addition to professional concerts in a wide range of styles, local musicians and club members are provided with ample opportunity to perform at informal members' evenings.

"The club, which meets at its Regency-style premises at 2 Sudley Road, is very welcoming and new members will be assured of a warm reception, particularly if they are interested in performing."

Highlights of the season include:

*October 31 '“ the Dussek Piano Trio playing trios by Haydn, Arensky and Beethoven. The trio comprises Michael Dussek, professor of accompaniment at the Royal Academy and teacher of many of the latest generation of accompanists; his wife cellist Margaret Powell who studied with Jacqueline Du Pre and performs and teaches at the Guildhall School of Music; and violinist Gonzola Acosta, co-leader of the ENO orchestra.

*December 5 '“ Soprano Helen-Jane Howells singing a mixture of romantic lieder and melodie, folksong and arias by Haydn, Britten, Faure, Gounod, Coates and Copland.

*January 9 '“ Masterclass taken by Colin Peters, where the students will be Ellie Sandbrook (flute), Mike Paver (tenor), Gill Stevenson (violin) and Chris Coote (piano).

*February 6 '“ Claire Jones, who was official harpist to the Prince of Wales, performs works by Bach, Tchaikovsky, Ravel, De Falla and John Williams.

*March 6 '“ University of Chichester students present a concert of classical music under the direction of Susan Legg.

*March 20 '“ Celebrity concert with Mark Padmore who will sing Schumann's Dichterliebe accompanied by Simon Lepper.

Concerts start at 7.30pm, and tickets may be bought on the door at prices ranging between 6 and 15 for members and 2 more for non-members.

Membership costs 12 (20 for couples and 5 for students) for the full season. At most concerts a light buffet supper is included. More information is available on the club's website www.bognorRegisMusic.org.uk, or by phoning 01243 822757 or 261373.
