HOT on the heels of their triumphant performance in Eastbourne of Verdi’s Requiem with the Eastbourne Choral Society, the Heathfield Choral Society returns to its roots on Saturday May 19 for a concert of popular choruses and songs from the world of opera and stage musicals.

Included in the evening are excerpts from Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera-two of the longest running musicals in the world - and The King and I. The second half of the programme takes us into the world of grand opera, including the Grand March from Aida, The Slaves Chorus from Nabucco and the beautiful and inspiring Easter Hymn fro Cavaliero Rusticana.

Joining the team of local soloists will be the international baritone Andrew Mayor, who has sung with Scottish Opera an Covent Garden’s: Linbury Theatre, and Dorothy Withers, soprano, who has sung with many opera companies, including Regency Opera, Hazelmere Opera, Southwick Opera and, most recently, Heber Opera.

The concert takes place in the State Hall, Station Road Heathfield and tickets are available from or from Peter Jameson on 01435 863414. These are £10 in advance or £12 at the door, and include a programme and interval drink.
