Popular Bognor lad Dan Williams will be remembered at a concert in aid of funding internet and entertainment at the Graffham Ward and Fernhurst Unit at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester.
The hospital looked after him brilliantly, says his friend David Hooper who is organising the event.
“Dan was loud, crazy and up for a laugh which led him to having (the) nickname of ‘Dan the Nutter’. Luckily all the above came with affection, fun and a loveable character
“He also had a love for the finer things in life including music, traveling, partying, certain cuisines and silly hats. None of which came without a lack of rhythm or a mishap or two.
“Dan’s best feature was most definitely his loud infectious laugh that would fill a town. Friends, family and even the quietest of places will remember that.”
David added: “After Dan came home from traveling in August 2009 he started to feel unwell and after being admitted to hospital, he was diagnosed with leukemia.
“For the next year Dan fought the leukemia with courage and stayed true to his lovable character. In August 2010 Dan had gone into remission and could carry on with life at home. Although he was still in and out of hospital and despite knowing his loud partying days were behind him, he still managed to keep a smile on everyone’s face.
“In December 2010 Dan’s leukemia came back and he was admitted back to hospital. Dan’s bravery was huge and not once did he complain about what life had thrown at him. You knew inside that he wasn’t scared, right up until the day he died.
“The staff at the Graffham Ward and Fernhurst Unit are special people that the NHS should be proud of. They looked after and attended to Dan brilliantly, building a special bond with him along the way.
“In the wake of Dan’s death, it seems only fitting to raise money for the ward that looked after him and with many of Dan’s friends and family already stepping up and raising money there should be huge amount donated before this time next year.”
The charity night with music from Tales Of George plus other local bands and a raffle will be at the Riverside Caravan Centre, Bognor Regis on November 26, 7.30pm. Tickets on the door. More information from David on 0781 0712943.
