A Remembrance Sunday concert is being held in Seaford in aid of Help for Heroes and includes a tribute to a local Western Front serviceman.
The concert, at Seaford Baptist Church in Belgrave Road, will be conducted by Frank Parker who, as a military bandsman, played his violin on the signature tune for BBC’s Dad’s Army, and will repeat the performance on the night.
The church’s 30 strong Concert Choir will sing a Mass for Peace, but also a medley of wartime songs, and audience participation is encouraged!
There will be classical solos, the Panis Angelicus will be sung with a small ensemble and there will be some popular and appropriate hymns and songs from musicals.
There will also be a tribute to one of the church’s former members, Donald Hodge, who served on the Western Front and is remembered by name every year in ceremonies at Ypres’s Menin Gate in Belgium.
The 90-minute concert starts at 6pm on Sunday. There is free admission with a retiring collection for Help for Heroes.
