Orchestra offers a varied programme

Under the direction of Adrian Shepherd MBE, the Lewes Concert Orchestra’s Christmas Concert opened with the beautiful Prelude to Humperdinck’s opera “Hansel and Gretel”.

The varied programme continued with a flute concerto by Vivaldi, expressively played by Brian Gopsill, a cello solo composed for and played by Jonathan Bruce and music by Vaughan Williams and Brahms.

The mostly classical programme was enlivened by contributions from the “Vox” choir from Lewes Old Grammar School and audience participation was required in traditional carols.

The concert ended with an energetic performance of Sibelius’ symphonic tone poem “Finlandia”.
