Poignant night for quartet

The Cavaleri Quartet will perform for the Nicholas Yonge Society at the Sussex Downs College in Lewes on Friday, January 25, at 7.15 for 7.45 pm.

It will be a poignant night.

As well as string quartets by Janacek and Beethoven, the programme includes a contemporary work, String Quartet No 3, by Jonathan Harvey who lived in Lewes.

After a long illness, Jonathan died on December 4, 2012, aged 73

Formed in 2008, the Cavaleri Quartet is gaining a reputation as one of the new generation of European string quartets.

They were first-prize winners and recipients of the Brahms and Mendelssohn Prizes in the 2012 Hamburg International Chamber Music Competition and Special Prize winners in the 2011 Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competiton.

Details of the concert are at www.nyslewes.org.uk.

Tickets cost £14 at the door (eight-25 year-olds free, sponsored by the Cavatina Chamber Music Trust) or from Lewes Travel or from www.localboxoffice.com.
