The Will Pound Band plays a pre-Christmas gig at Brighton’s Green Door Store on Sunday, December 15, at 8pm.

Spokeswoman Adrian Mealing said: “BBC R2 Folk Awards Best Musician nominee, harmonica player Will Pound tours with Chris Sarjeant guitar/vocals (Jackie Oates band), Henry Webster fiddle (2013 London Fiddle Convention Winner, Henry Webster Band, Tandem) and John Parker double bass (Nizlopi, Paper Aeroplane).

“They play a mix of English, Irish and Northumbrian tunes with jazz, bluegrass, blues, rock and funk rhythms. Will is one of the world’s top harmonica players and a festival favourite. He’s taken the instrument to new places and new music with a style that is completely his own. Will plays both diatonic and chromatic harmonicas and creates sounds not usually heard on this little instrument in styles varying from bluegrass, folk, jazz and Arabic to blues, rock, pop and funk.

“Will releases his debut solo album A Cut Above in October. An effervescent, life-affirming album, A Cut Above acrobatically hops across bluegrass, folk and jazz to blues, rock, pop and funk featuring both new arrangements of trad numbers and inventive original material. Be it a sultry take on Amazing Grace, the jaunty title track written by Will and wife Nicky or the barely-time- to-catch-your-breath bluegrass fave Clinch Mountain Back Step, this is a compelling and dazzling display of virtuosity.”
