TALK: Mountaineer Stephen Venables in Worthing

ACCLAIMED mountaineer Stephen Venables will bring to life the thrills and terror of exploring one of the most dangerous terrains on Earth when he visits Worthing's Pavilion Theatre on Monday, April 19

During the last 10 years, the internationally acclaimed mountaineer has repeated Sir Ernest Shackleton's famous crossing of South Georgia twice, visited the island three times in total and will lead another expedition this winter.

Stephen, who was the first Briton to climb Everest without supplementary oxygen, brings Shackleton's extraordinary expedition crossing Antarticta via the South Pole to life.

He uses his highly acclaimed photos and natural gifts as a storyteller to illustrate the perilous journey and capture the thrill of climbing, skiing and sailing in a place of haunting beauty.

Images and stories from one of the most remote places in the world allow Stephen to talk about the unique wildlife, his own exploration of the area and how he was able to scale mountains that rise 9,000 feet out of the ocean, providing a vibrant and realistic insight into the reality of mountaineering.

Tickets for the talk, which starts at 7.30pm, are 12.50, with 2 off for concessions.

They can be brought in person at the box office, by calling 01903 206206 or visiting the website www.worthingtheatres.co.uk
