FUNNY Women will be returning to Brighton on Saturday, 21 July, to present a host of local funny females hoping they will be laughing all the way to the Funny Women Awards Final in London on September 24 .

Spokesman Dion Clements said: “The 10th anniversary semi-final shows, which are on tour around the UK, provide a well-earned platform for some of the best new female comedy acts, and celebrate all kinds of comedy: sketch, musical, character and beyond.

“The semi-final at the Pavilion Theatre, in the Brighton Dome, will be headlined by the first-ever Funny Women Awards winner Jade the Folk Singer, who was also critically acclaimed at the 2009 Musical Comedy Awards. Dynamic duo Checkley and Bush, who were finalists in the 2011 Awards are hosting the show

“This year there are two awards for performers, the main Benefit Funny Women Award and the Blue Nun Variety Award. Live audition heats for the two categories have taken place this year in London, Dublin, Manchester, Brighton and Edinburgh and revealed the extraordinary new talent about to be showcased in the semi-finals.

“The talented ten that have made it through to the Brighton semi-final are Catherine Povinelli, Ivy Manilow, (much beloved by twitter’s very own @mrsstephenfry), Lucy Frederick, (as seen on Gok Wan’s How to Look Good Naked), Lucy Montague Moffatt, Robyn Perkins, Sonia Brown, The Underdogs, Cerys Nelmes, Elizabeth Stary and Gemma Goggin

“Funny Women works to promote and encourage more women into comedy and has showcased some of the most high profile comedians working on the circuit today. Sarah Millican, Andi Osho, Susan Calman, Kerry Godliman and Miss London are just some of the fantastic names who have entered the Funny Women Awards over the last ten years.”
