Great production with so many familiar songs

Singing In The Rain,
Congress Theatre,

When Eastbourne Theatres book a West End musical they ensure it is the best they can get.

This is certainly the case with Singing in the Rain, which opened this week and plays until Saturday, April 19.

It is such a well known show as most people have seen the film starring Gene Kelly, but this show is as true to the film as you can get and the rain sequences are great and very wet!

James Leece is excellent as Don Lockwood and relished kicking puddles at the audience while singing in the rain. Equally good is Stephen Anelli as Cosmo Brown while Amy Ellen Richardson not only looks great and dances well she also has a delightful voice as Kathy Selden.

Maxwell Caulfield is director R.F.Simpson who endeavours to turn Lina Lamont into a star of talking pictures.

The shining star has to be Vicky Binns, known to Coronation Street fans as Molly Compton. On only her second night in the role of Lina Lamont she was outstanding with her awful voice, which was so bad it had to be covered by young Kathy.

This is a wonderful production with so much talent and so many familiar songs, You stepped out of a dream, Good Morning,You are my lucky star and, of course, Singing in the Rain.

Eastbourne is lucky to have the show direct from London’s West End for two weeks. You can see a top class musical for provincial prices so do not miss it.
